New KSP Cadet Class to Begin 22 Weeks of Training
(FRANKFORT, KY) - Members of the 82nd Kentucky State Police Cadet Class will begin a 22-week training course at the State Police Academy in Frankfort on Sunday, January 25 with 64 cadet troopers reporting for duty.
Cadets are expected to arrive at 1 p.m. Interviews with the cadets will not be permitted after that time. However, news media representatives are welcome to shoot video and speak with members of the academy staff throughout the afternoon.
Activities will include cadet check-in and orientation, introduction of academy staff, haircuts, issuing of uniforms, instruction materials and equipment, assignment of dorm rooms, a one-and-a-half-mile run and a variety of physical fitness training and testing.
Demographically, 63 of the cadets are male and one is female. One is African-American and two are Hispanic.
During their training, the cadets will study the laws and statutes of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the history of the KSP, as well accident and criminal investigation techniques, vehicle pursuit, DUI enforcement, firearms training, first aid, and many other aspects of becoming a Kentucky State Police trooper. The cadets are expected to graduate June 26, 2004.
