News Release

Fatality on US 460 in Fedscreek, KY

Date of News Release: 03/11/2014

(Fedscreek, Ky.) - On Saturday March 8, 2014 at 1:51 PM Post 9, Pikeville received a call of a two vehicle accident with injuries on Card Mountain Road on US 460 in the Fedscreek community of Pike County. Information obtained at the scene indicated that Barry Shortridge of Mouthcard, Ky. was traveling West on US 460 when his vehicle ran off the right shoulder of the roadway making contact with the guardrail. Shortridge overcorrected his vehicle crossing the centerline into the Eastbound lane of US 460 striking a Eastbound vehicle operated by Terry Sawyers of Mouthcard, Ky. Terry Sawyers was pronounced deceased at the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Denver Bailey. A passenger in Sawyers vehicle was transported to Pikeville Medical Center for their injuries. Shortridge was arrested for Driving Under the Influence 1st Offense, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center. The accident remains under investigation by KSP Accident Reconstructionist Tpr. Bryan Layne.
