Update: Shooting Investigation at the Kentucky Welcome Center in Simpson County

Date of News Release: 07/16/2014

(Bowling Green, KY) - Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green is now releasing the name of the shooter of last night's deadly shooting that occurred at the Kentucky Welcome Center on I 65 in Simpson County, Kentucky. The shooter has been identified as James Roames (39) of Hendersonville, TN.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Shooting Investigation at the Kentucky Welcome Center in Simpson County

Date of News Release: 07/16/2014

(Bowling Green, KY) - On Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 9:25 P.M. Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to a shooting at the Kentucky Welcome Center in Simpson County, Kentucky.

Preliminary investigation shows that a male subject walked up to a vehicle that was parked at the Rest Area and opened fire on the driver of the vehicle. According to witness statements the male subject then turned the gun on himself. The driver has been identified is Jamie Plymel(40) of Spring Hill, TN. Mr. Plymel was pronounced dead at the Franklin Medical Center.

The male subject was taken to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville were he died from his injuries. The subject's name is not being released pending notification.

The investigation is still ongoing.
