Dawson Springs, KY (Hopkins County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a single-vehicle, injury collision that occurred on Interstate 69, approximately five miles north of Dawson Springs, on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at 9:25 a.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that X'Zavier M. Alley, 18, of Dresden, TN, was operating a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox southbound on I-69 when it appears that he fell asleep.

The vehicle drifted toward the left and entered the median. Mr. Alley overcorrected and lost control. The vehicle turned sideways and crossed both lanes of travel. It exited the right side of the roadway and struck an earth embankment which caused it to overturn. The vehicle overturned multiple times before it came to rest upright in the emergency lane.

Mr. Alley and his passengers:

were transported via ambulance to Baptist Health Madisonville for treatment. Mr. Alley, Mr. Washington, and Ms. Shelton were wearing seatbelts. Justice and Jace Alley were secured in child safety seats.

Trooper First Class John Komar investigated the collision. The Charleston Volunteer Fire Department and Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
