Earlington, KY (Hopkins County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a four-vehicle, injury collision that occurred on the Pennyrile Parkway at the 39 mile marker, on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 12:53 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Lonnie Todd, 90 of Madisonville, KY, was operating a 1990 Ford Ranger pickup truck while traveling northbound on the Pennyrile Parkway, at the forty mile marker in the right lane of travel. Mr. Thomas Drake Jr., 40 of White Plains, KY, was operating a 1991 Ford F-250 pickup, behind Mr. Todd's vehicle. Ms. Paula Berry, 46 of Mortons Gap, KY, was operating a 2005 Toyota Corolla behind Mr. Pailin. For an unknown reason, Mr. Todd stopped in the right northbound lane of travel, just south of exit 40. The front bumper of Mr. Drake's vehicle then collided with the rear bumper of Mr. Todd's vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to cross into the emergency strip, striking a guardrail. The impact of the collision caused Mr. Todd's vehicle to come to final rest on top of the guardrail at the northbound KY 2171 overpass, facing north. Mr. Drake's vehicle came to final rest in the northbound emergency strip facing north. Following the collision with Mr. Todd's vehicle, Mr. Pailin attempted to slow and avoid a second collision but was struck in the rear by Ms. Berry's vehicle. Mr. Pailin's vehicle came to final rest partially in the median facing north. Ms. Berry's vehicle came to final rest in the right lane of travel facing northeast.

Mr. Lonnie Todd was transported by ambulance to Baptist Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained as a result of the collision. Mr. Pailin's passengers, Robert Shelton, 70 of Madisonville, Ky, Tonia Pailin, 36 and Jaeda Pailin, 7 both of Covington, TN, Beatrice Davie, 90 of Lafayette, KY and Lakarra Delauette, 20 of Memphis, TN were not injured.
