Single-Vehicle Injury Collision with DUI Arrest

Date of News Release: 02/04/2014

Nortonville, KY (Hopkins County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a single-vehicle, injury collision that occurred on North Main Street, in the limits of Nortonville, on Monday, February 3, 2014, at 5:34 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Violet D. Rickard, 47 of Madisonville, was operating a 1989 Ford F-250 northbound on North Main Street when her vehicle lost traction due to ice. The vehicle crossed the centerline and exited the southbound shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle struck a ditch and overturned. It came to rest on its top off the roadway.

Ms. Rickard was not injured. Joshua C. Rickard (her son), 27 of Earlington, a passenger in the vehicle, was transported via ambulance to Baptist Health Madisonville where he was treated and released. Mark A. Woodruff, 37 of Madisonville, also a passenger in the vehicle, reported no injuries. All occupants were wearing seatbelts.

During the investigation, Trooper Craft determined that Ms. Rickard was impaired. She was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

  1. DUI 1st Offense (Aggravating Circumstances)
  2. Possession of Open Alcoholic Container in Motor Vehicle
  3. Improper Display of Registration Plate
  4. No Registration Plate
  5. No Registration Receipt
  6. No Insurance 1st

Joshua C. Rickard was arrested due to outstanding warrants. Both were lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.

Trooper Nathan Craft investigated the collision. Trooper Jonathan Murphy, Nortonville Fire & Rescue, and Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
