Date of News Release: 02/03/2014

Crofton, KY (Christian County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a two-vehicle, injury collision that occurred on the Pennyrile Parkway at the 19 mile-marker, approximately four miles south of Crofton, on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at 4:18 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Wesley Obrien, 17 of Clarksville, TN, was operating a 2006 Saturn passenger car northbound on the Pennyrile Parkway when he observed a standard motorist in the median and pulled over to the shoulder to assist the occupants. Kim Konczal, 47 of Madisonville, KY, was operating a 2005 Mazda pickup truck northbound on the Pennyrile Parkway when she lost control of her vehicle while attempting to slow for the stopped vehicles.

Mr. Obrien was standing on the passenger side of his vehicle leaning into the passenger compartment when he and his vehicle were struck by Ms. Konczal's vehicle. The impact forced Mr. Obrien from his vehicle onto the roadway. Both vehicles came to final rest in the median.

Both Mr. Obrien and Ms. Konczal, who was wearing a seatbelt, were transported via ambulance to Jennie Stewart Medical Center for treatment.

Trooper Ryan Fox investigated the collision. Sergeant Timothy Sales and Hopkinsville EMS assisted at the scene.
