Update: Single-Vehicle Fatality Collision on I-24

Date of News Release: 01/09/2014

Oak Grove, KY (Christian County) - The Kentucky State Police is investigating a single-vehicle, fatality collision that occurred on Interstate 24, at approximately the 92 mile-marker, on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at 2:48 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Andrew J. Arnold, 29 of Clarksville, TN, was operating a 2008 International Loomis armored vehicle eastbound on Interstate 24. For an undetermined reason, the vehicle exited the right shoulder of the roadway. It traveled up an embankment, and then back down. The vehicle reentered the roadway and overturned as it crossed both eastbound lanes. It came to rest upright in the median.

Mr. Arnold was pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County Coroner, Doris Lamb. Mr. Arnold was wearing a seatbelt. The passenger, Robert J. Damer, 38 of Chapmansboro, TN, was transported by Air Evac to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment. It is unknown if Mr. Damer was restrained.

Trooper Michael Dennis is continuing the investigation. KSP Post 2 officers, The Christian County Sheriff's Department, Oak Grove Fire & Rescue, Oak Grove EMS, Air Evac, the Christian County Coroner's Office and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet assisted at the scene.

Madisonville, KY – An autopsy was performed today at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville. The victim, Andrew J. Arnold, died as a result of a medical condition and not as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. This is not a traffic fatality.

It traveled up an embankment, and then back down. The vehicle reentered the roadway and overturned as it crossed both eastbound lanes. It came to rest upright in the median.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was transported by Air Evac to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment. The names of the victims are being withheld until the next of kin has been notified.
