KSP Post 1 partners with Four River's Harley Davidson to host Motorcycle Safety Awareness Day

Date of News Release: 05/22/2014

(Paducah, KY) - The Kentucky State Police and Four Rivers Harley Davidson will host a motorcycle safety day on Saturday May 24, 2014 from 10:00 A.M. till 2:00 P.M. at Four Rivers Harley Davidson in Paducah.

Hopkinsville Police Department will be on hand to demonstrate riding skills with their police motorcycles. KSP, PHI and Air Evac will have booth's set up to help promote motorcycle safety awareness.

Motorcycles are vehicles with the same rights and privileges as any motor vehicle on the roadway. All motorists are reminded to safely "share the road" with motorcycles and to be extra alert to help keep motorcyclists safe. Motorcyclists are reminded to make themselves visible to other motorists.

Thomas said that a motorcyclist is much more vulnerable than a passenger vehicle occupant in the event of a crash. Research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that motorcyclists are 34 times more likely to die in traffic crashes than passenger car occupants.

Thomas offers tips for drivers to help keep motorcyclists safe on our roadways.

The Kentucky Governor's Commission on Motorcycle Education and Safety has a website with resources for riders including locations and dates for rider education classes. http://kentuckymotorcycleeducationandsafety.ky.gov/
