News Release

Death Investigation Underway in Hancock County

Date of News Release: 01/22/2014

Hawesville, KY - The Kentucky State Police is currently investigating the death of a 43 year old Lewisport man.

Preliminary information reveals that approximately 12:30 pm, Harold Powers, 43 of Lewisport, drove to the residence of Kenneth Eubanks, 50 at the 1700 block of KY 2181. Eubanks, who is a deputy sheriff for Hancock County Sheriff's Department, saw Powers exit his vehicle with a firearm. Eubanks confronted Powers on his front porch. At that point, Powers shot at Eubanks with an unknown caliber pistol. Eubanks returned fire, striking Powers in the chest.

Powers was taken to Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, Indiana for treatment. A short time later, he was pronounced dead.

Eubanks was not injured.

At this hour, an autopsy is being conducted in Tell City, IN.
