News Release

Felony Assault Arrest in Carter County

Date of News Release: 01/09/2014

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland have arrested a Grayson, KY resident after conducting an investigation into the assault of a two month old infant.

On Sunday January 5, 2014 a two month old infant was taken to King's Daughters Medical Center to be treated for a head injury. Due to the nature of the injury, the infant was transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment and the Kentucky State Police was contacted.

Detective Jeff Kelley responded and began an investigation into the cause of the injury. During the course of the investigation it was determined Shannon Wagoner, the infant's father, had struck the infant in the head causing the injury.

On Wednesday January 8, 2014 Shannon Wagoner, age 32, of Grayson, KY was arrested, lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center and charged with:

Assault 1st Degree Domestic Violence
Possession of Marijuana
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

(The assault occurred at a residence in Carter County, but the arrest was made of Mr. Wagoner at a location in Boyd County. At the time of his arrest Mr. Wagoner had illegal items in his possession and was charged accordingly.)

The case remains under investigation by Detective Jeff Kelley.
