Letcher County Shooting Leaves One Dead

(Letcher, KY) - On Sunday, March 16, 2014, at approximately 6:09 p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call from Boothill Road, in the Letcher community of Letcher County, advising of a shooting during an altercation.

KSP troopers responded to the scene, along with members of the Letcher Fire and Rescue Squad. The initial investigation determined that an argument had occurred on Boothill Road, near the residence of William Banks. Milburn Glover, age 47 of Cornettsville, came to the area, and became involved in an argument with Banks and David Ritchie. The verbal argument between the three escalated into a physical altercation, in which Milburn Glover was physically assaulted by David Ritchie. Glover produced a firearm, and fired a single shot, fatally wounding Ritchie. David Ritchie, age 37 of Blackey, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner's Office.

Milburn Glover was taken into custody, charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He also had an active warrant, which was served by arresting officers. Charges in relation to the death of David Ritchie are pending, as this investigation is continuing. An autopsy is scheduled today at the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort. This investigation is continuing by KSP Post 13 in Hazard.
