Post 8 2013 Citizen's Police Academy

Date of News Release: 08/20/2013

(Morehead, KY) -- Kentucky State Police Post 8 will be hosting its annual Citizen's Police Academy. Classes will begin on Wednesday September 11, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will be held consecutively each week at the Martha Caudill Stacy Building in West Liberty.

The Citizen's Police Academy (CPA) is an eleven-week (that includes graduation) program designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Kentucky State Police and law enforcement operations.

The instruction is comprehensive and each week separate areas of the agency are covered. The CPA curriculum will be taught by experienced Kentucky State Police personnel and provide students with an overview of the major units and issues of citizen concern. Some topics include Patrol/Accident Investigation, Traffic Stops, Criminal Investigation and several other law enforcement aspects.

The Kentucky State Police Citizen's Police Academy brings law enforcement and the community close together in a setting that offers a sample of police training to each participant.

The goals of this CPA include providing stronger citizen-police relationships, enhancing lines of communication, and the reduction of crime in the community.

The objective of the CPA is not to train individuals to be reserve police officers, but to produce informed citizens.

Interested citizens need to complete an application found at Post 8 2013 Kentucky State Police Citizens Police Academy Electronic Application
or
Post 8 2013 Kentucky State Police Citizens Police Academy Application. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older with no prior felony convictions. Anyone interested may contact Master Trooper Joe Veeneman of the Kentucky State Police Post 8 at 606-784-4127.
