June Activity with July Checkpoint

(Morehead, KY) -- Kentucky State Police at Post 8 Morehead announce the final traffic and criminal activity report for June 2013. During June, Post 8 personnel issued 2,095 total citations. Of those citations, 26 were for DUI, 434 were for Speeding, 208 for No Seat Belt, and 16 for Child Restraint violations. In addition, there were 2,023 Vehicle Inspections and 316 Courtesy Notices issued. Post 8 also investigated 55 Traffic Collisions, there were three total fatality collisions worked by Post last month. Two motorcycle collisions in Rowan County and a one vehicle fatal collision in Powell County. Post 8 personnel also investigated 1257 Complaints. A total of 90 Criminal Cases were opened and 309 Criminal Arrests were made for the month of June 2013.
Additionally, Captain Brian Bowling, Commander of the Kentucky State Police at Morehead, announces Troopers of the Morehead Post will be conducting Safety Checkpoints in addition to Moving Patrols throughout the Post 8 area during the entire month of July as well as the remainder of the year 2013. There will also be an increase of Moving Patrols and Safety Checkpoints the week of July 4th. Motorists are urged to be cautious and obey reduced speeds through road construction zones.
This concentrated enforcement effort will utilize Troopers and Detectives assigned to and working the Morehead post area. Members of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) will also be utilized. They will focus on enforcing violations of Speeding, No Seat Belt, Child Restraint, Impaired Driving Laws, and Texting While Driving, as well as other violations of the Traffic Laws of Kentucky.
