Campton Woman Killed in a Collision in Wolfe County

Date of News Release: 04/26/2013

(Campton, KY) -- On Thursday April 25, 2013, at 4:11pm Kentucky State Police Morehead received a call from Wolfe County Dispatch requesting assistance with an injury accident near the eight and a half mile marker on KY15 S in Wolfe County. Lieutenant James Catron, Trooper First Class Bret Kirkland, Wolfe County Sheriff's Department and Wolfe County Fire and EMS responded to the scene. Juanita Bailey, 47 of Campton, and Lola Bailey, 21 of Campton, were sitting in their 2003 Suzuki passenger car, that had ran out of gas in the far right, north bound lane on KY15 S around the 8 and a half mile marker. Mrs. Bailey was waiting on assistance with her hazard lights activated, when Clyde Simmons, 71 of Lexington was traveling north bound on KY 15 S in his 2012 Hyundai passenger car and failed to notice Mrs. Bailey's car in the lane of traffic and struck the vehicle from behind. Both, Juanita Bailey and Lola Bailey were transported to the Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson. Juanita Bailey was pronounced deceased at the Kentucky River Medical Center due to injuries sustained during the accident and Lola Bailey has been treated and released for non life threatening injuries. Alcohol is not thought to be a factor in the accident. The accident remains under investigation by Trooper First Class Bret Kirkland.
