Morgan County Shooting Investigation

Date of News Release: 02/05/2013

(Ezel, KY) -- On Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 2:07 a.m. Kentucky State Police, Morehead Post received a call from West Liberty Dispatch Center of a shooting incident at 98 Archie Watkins Road in the Ezel community of Morgan County. Upon arrival it was determined that Ronald J. Carmichael, age 38, of Ezel and James R. Patton, age 27, of West Liberty had been involved in an altercation that escalated to the shooting of James R. Patton. James Patton was transported by Morgan County E.M.S. to Morgan County Appalachian Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Ronald Carmichael was interviewed and released. The incident remains under investigation by Detective Donnie McGraw. Detective Donnie McGraw was assisted by Trooper Mike McPherson and Sergeant Jeff Crase. Morgan County Sheriff's Department assisted with securing the scene.
