News Release

Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post Investigates Fatal Collision in Estill County

Date of News Release: 04/07/2013

(Irvine, KY)- On Saturday, April 7, 2013 at approximately 12:19 pm EDT the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was notified of a two vehicle collision on KY 52/Richmond Road west of Irvine.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2001 Dodge Durango operated by Shelby Harrison, 18 years old of Irvine, was traveling east on Richmond Road when the operator steered to the right to avoid other east bound traffic turning left. The Dodge SUV went onto the right shoulder then crossed into the opposite lane striking a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox traveling west operated by William Neal, 50 years old of Irvine.

William Neal was pronounced dead at the scene by the Estill County Coroner. A passenger in his vehicle, Ronald Whittaker, 75 years old of Irvine, was transported to Marcum and Wallace Hospital where he later died.

Shelby Harrison was transported to Marcum and Wallace Hospital for treatment of her injuries. A passenger in her vehicle, Justin Colton, 20 years old of Irvine, was not injured.

All involved parties appear to have been using seat belts prior to the collision.

The collision is under investigation by Trooper Aaron Hall. He was assisted at the scene by other KSP personnel and the Estill County Fire Department, Estill County EMS and the Estill County Sheriff's Department.
