News Release

One Killed in a Two Vehicle Collision on US 42

Date of News Release: 05/31/2013

(Campbellsburg, KY) -- On May 30, 2013 at 2:27 pm, Gallatin County dispatch received a call that there was a two vehicle, injury accident, on US 42 west of Warsaw, KY. Gallatin County Sheriff's Department, Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene. Gallatin County notified Kentucky State Police Post 5 to send a Reconstructionist to the scene, because it was a fatality. The collision involved a Chevrolet pickup and a dump truck. The operator of the pickup, Deborah Ryles, age 55, of Warsaw, was pulled over on the westbound shoulder of traffic. The pickup was loaded down with furniture. Ms. Ryles attempted to make a U-turn, back eastbound and was struck in the driver's side by a dump truck. The dump truck was loaded with 78 thousand pounds of asphalt and operated by Terry Hall, age 68, of Florence IN. Mr. Hall was westbound on US 42 when the pickup pulled into his lane of travel. Deborah Ryles, age 55, was not wearing a seat belt, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Gallatin County Coroner. A front seat passenger in the pickup, Donvoan Brown, age 29, of Warsaw KY, was also not wearing his seat belt. Mr. Brown had apparent broken bones and was transported to Carroll County Memorial hospital for non life threatening injuries. Mr. Hall sustained cuts and scrapes and was also transported to Carroll County Memorial for non life threatening injuries. Both were transported by Gallatin County EMS. The investigation is being lead by Trooper Brandon Maupin, unit 442. Neither operator appeared to be intoxicated and no charges pending at this time.
