Date of News Release: 05/24/2013

(ELIZABETHTOWN, KY) -- On Thursday, May 23, 2013 at approximately 8:58 p.m. ET Post 4 Dispatchers received a call from a family member of Shannon Gales, 25 from Elizabethown, that she was pinned underneath her vehicle. At approximately 9:07 p.m. ET Troopers arrived on the scene and discovered a female underneath an overturned 1995 GMC SUV. Trooper Dennis Oldham and Sgt. Jeff Jenkins were able to lift the vehicle off the victim and administer CPR until EMS arrived. She was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital where she was listed in critical condition. Tpr. Gales and her passenger attempted to push the vehicle to her mother's house while pushing from the outside. Gales' two-year-old daughter was strapped in the car seat still inside the vehicle. At some point the GMC started to roll backwards. The passenger quit pushing as it rolled back; however, Gales kept a hold of the steering wheel in an attempt to stop it from rolling. Nevertheless, the vehicle kept rolling backwards, traveled down an embankment and overturned over a culvert. Gales became pinned underneath it as it rolled on top of her. Her two-year-old daughter was uninjured. He was assisted at the scene by other Troopers, Hardin County EMS, Central Hardin and Elizabethtown Fire and Rescue.
