Two Killed in a Collision on US 60 in Breckinridge County

Date of News Release: 04/06/2013

(HARDINSBURG, KY) -- On Saturday, April 06, 2013 at approximately 10:55 a.m. CT Breckinridge County Central Dispatch received a call of a two-vehicle injury collision on US 60 approximately six miles west of Hardinsburg. Breckinridge County requested a KSP reconstructionist and Tpr. Brad Riley responded. His investigation revealed that 28-year-old Justin J. Glisson of Irvington, KY was westbound on US 60 and was operating a 1977 Chevrolet Nova. For unknown reasons Glisson's vehicle crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2004 Freightliner/Tanker hauling approximately 9,000 gallons of gasoline. It was operated by 49-year-old Timothy M. Castlen of Maceo, KY. The Freightliner exited the right shoulder of the roadway and overturned. The Nova came to final rest in the eastbound lanes of US 60. As a result of the collision, Justin J. Glisson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Breckinridge County Coroner, Tim Bandy. Justin J. Glisson was wearing a seatbelt. His passenger and also his sister, 27-year-old Tracy Glisson of Cloverport, KY was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained serious life-threatening injuries. She was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital where she is listed in critical condition. Castlen sustained serious non life-threatening injuries and was also airlifted to U of L Hospital. He was also wearing a seatbelt. On April 7th, KSP was notified that 27-year-old Tracy Glisson of Cloverport, KY died at 4:08 a.m.

As a result of the Freightliner overturning approximately 4,000 gallons of gasoline leaked from the tanker. Crews from Southern Environmental are on the scene conducting clean up. A detour has been set up, as that section of US 60 is expected to be closed for several days. Tpr. Riley was assisted at the scene by the Hardinsburg Fire Department, Breckinridge County EMS, Air Evac, Breckinridge County Sheriff's Dept., Fort Knox Fire Dept. (Haz Mat), and the State Fire Marshall's Office.
