News Release

Shooting Investigation at the Barren County Correctional Center

Date of News Release: 06/01/2013

(Bowling Green, KY) -- On Friday, May 31, 2013, at 6:57 PM. Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green received a call from the Barren County Correctional Center stating that Metcalfe County Deputy Sheriff Joshua Neal (25) of Edmonton, KY was in the sally port of the jail and accidentally discharged his agency issued firearm.

The bullet struck the right leg of Deputy Neal. Deputy Neal was taken to T.J. Samson Hospital for non life threatening injuries. Deputy Neal is a three year veteran of the Metcalfe County Sherriff's Department.

There were no inmates or jail personnel in the sally port at the time of the discharge.

The investigation is still ongoing and is being led by KSP Sergeant Tim Adams. He was assisted on scene by Trooper Randy Chambers.
