Single-Vehicle Injury Collision on the Pennyrile Parkway

Sebree, KY (Webster County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a single-vehicle, injury collision that occurred on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway, approximately six miles south of Sebree, on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at 5:45 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Marchell L. Serpa, 31 of Madisonville, KY, was operating a 2008 Mazda 3 southbound on the parkway in a heavy fog. She came upon an animal carcass in the roadway and swerved to avoid it.
Ms. Serpa lost control of the vehicle. It continued sideways off of the roadway and struck a guardrail. The vehicle flipped over the guardrail, traveled down an embankment and overturned at least once. It came to rest upright in a ditch.
Ms. Serpa was transported via ambulance to Baptist Health Madisonville for treatment. She was wearing a seatbelt. There were no passengers involved.
Trooper First Class John Komar investigated the collision. Sebree Fire & Rescue and Webster County EMS assisted at the scene.
