Two-Vehicle, Injury Collision on the Pennyrile Parkway

Date of News Release: 09/26/2013

Hanson, KY (Hopkins County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a two-vehicle, injury collision that occurred on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway, between the 52 and 53 mile-marker, on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at 7:40 a.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Rhonda P. Minton, 59 of Madisonville, KY, was operating a 2007 BMW 328i northbound on the parkway. Danny L. Gray, 51 of Baldwyn, MS, was operating a 2003 Peterbilt tractor-trailer northbound on the parkway. The tractor-trailer was hauling automobiles. Ms. Minton was traveling in the left lane and Mr. Gray was traveling in the right lane.

Ms. Minton was attempting to overtake Mr. Gray as the vehicles approached a construction zone where the left lane was closed. As she attempted to change lanes, she lost control and struck two, construction barrels. Her vehicle turned sideways into the path of Mr. Gray's vehicle. The tractor-trailer struck the BMW. The BMW exited the roadway, traveled down an embankment, and overturned coming to rest upright.

Ms. Minton was transported via ambulance to Baptist Health Madisonville for treatment. Mr. Gray was not injured. Both operators were wearing seatbelts. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Trooper First Class John Komar investigated the collision. The Hopkins County Sheriff's Department, Medical Center Ambulance Service, and SAFE Patrol assisted at the scene.
