Two-Vehicle Injury Collision Involving Trooper

Greenville, KY (Muhlenberg County) -- The Kentucky State Police is investigating a two-vehicle, injury collision involving a trooper that occurred at the intersection of KY 189 and Greene Drive on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 8:00 a.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Tpr. Jerry Knight, 41 of Greenville, KY, was on patrol operating a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria northbound on KY 189. Daniel Taylor, 61 of Central City, KY, was operating a 2007 Ford Taurus SE southbound on KY 189. Mr. Taylor was attempting to make a left turn from KY 189 onto Greene Drive.

Mr. Taylor disregarded the stoplight and turned left into the path of Tpr. Knight. The two vehicles collided in the intersection. Tpr. Knight's cruiser came to rest in the roadway. Mr. Taylor's vehicle came to rest off the northbound side of the roadway.

Mr. Taylor was transported via ambulance to the Muhlenberg Community Hospital for treatment. Tpr. Knight was transported to the Muhlenberg Community Hospital by Tpr. Craig Engler where he was treated and released. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Mr. Taylor was cited to court for disregarding a traffic control device and failure to yield right of way.

Sgt. Matt Jordan is investigating the collision. Tpr. Craig Engler, Tpr. Jerrod Hearld, the Greenville Police Department, Greenville Fire & Rescue, Central City Fire & Rescue, the Powderly Police Department, and Muhlenberg County EMS assisted at the scene.
