Two-Vehicle, Injury Collision on I-24

Oak Grove, KY (Christian County) -- The Kentucky State Police investigated a two-vehicle, injury collision that occurred on I-24, at approximately the 88 mile-marker westbound, on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 6:45 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Justin McElhaney, 32 of Midwest City, OK, was operating a 2012 International tractor-trailer westbound on I-24. Rowland Turner, 36 of Clarksville, TN, was operating a 2008 Honda Civic westbound on I-24 in front of Mr. McElhaney. Both vehicles were entering the construction zone.
Mr. Turner had slowed to a stop for merging traffic. Mr. McElhaney glanced away for a moment and did not realize that traffic had stopped. His vehicle struck Mr. Turner's vehicle.
Mr. Turner was transported via ambulance to Gateway Medical Center for treatment. Mr. McElhaney was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Trooper Luis Palmer investigated the collision. Trooper Jim McArthur, Oak Grove Fire & Rescue, and Oak Grove EMS assisted at the scene.
