News Release

Two-Vehicle Fatality Collision on I-24

Date of News Release: 05/16/2013

Oak Grove, KY (Christian County) – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a two-vehicle fatal collision that occurred on Interstate 24, at the 89 mile-marker Thursday, May 16, 2013, at approximately 11:20 a.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Harold Johnson, 69 of Colorado Springs, CO, was operating a 2005 Buick Terraza eastbound on I-24. His wife, Louise Johnson, 68, was a passenger in the vehicle. Timothy Baldwin, 54 of Monticello, MN, was operating a 2004 Volvo semi pulling a trailer also eastbound on I-24.

Mr. Baldwin's semi struck the back of Mr. Johnson's vehicle forcing it off the road and into a ditch. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were transported to Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, TN, were Mr. Johnson succumbed to his injures. Mr. Baldwin was not injured.

All parties involved were wearing a seatbelts.

Timothy Baldwin was arrested and charged with Murder, DUI 1st Offense, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (On Foot), Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (Police Officer), and Resisting Arrest.

The investigation is continuing by Tpr. Michael Dennis and collision reconstructionist Tpr. Luis Palmer. Sergeant Derek Smith, Trooper Craig Engler, Trooper Chris King, KSP CVE Officer John Hibbs, Oak Grove EMS, and Oak Grove Fire Department assisted at the scene.
