National Public Safety Telecommunications Week Honors "Heroes Behind The Headsets"

Date of News Release: 04/09/2013

Madisonville, KY -- April 14-20 is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. During this time, Kentucky State Police dispatchers at Post 2 in Madisonville will join more than 200,000 fellow telecommunicators throughout the United States being recognized for their long hours and dedication to public safety.

Post 2 has eight telecommunicators on staff who handle calls from seven counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster. Last year, Post 2 telecommunicators responded to 23,277 calls.

"Throughout the state, KSP telecommunicators are the 'heroes behind the headsets' who provide a lifeline to both citizens in need and officers in the field," says KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer. "They serve as an unseen, but vital link in keeping law enforcement officers and the public safe at all times of the day or night. They work odd hours, make personal sacrifices, handle a huge amount of stress and are ready and willing to help at a moment’s notice. They deserve a well-earned salute for their dedication and service to the Kentucky State Police and the citizens of the Commonwealth."

KSP employs 185 telecommunicators at its 16 posts throughout the state. In 2012, they handled a total of 555,123 calls.

The Post 2 telecommunications team includes: Supervisor John Davis of Madisonville, Shift Supervisor Chris Rogers of Princeton, Martha Clark of Madisonville, Ronald Cobb of White Plains, Chris King of Central City, Robert Littlepage of Powderly, Lauren Robinson of Bremen, and Miria Thomas of Earlington.
