Fatal Collision in Carter County
Date of News Release: 09/16/2013
(Ashland, KY) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland is investigating a fatal collision that occurred yesterday afternoon around 7:35 pm in the area of mile marker 149 on Interstate 64 in Carter County, KY. The victim, 53 year old, Myong S. Tran of Lexington, KY, was operating a Hyundai Elantra eastbound on Interstate 64 when she lost control of the vehicle, travelled into the median and overcorrected. The vehicle then travelled back across both eastbound lanes and struck and embankment. During the collision Tran was ejected from the vehicle and received serious injuries.
Tran was initially transported to St.Claire Medical Center and later transported to The University of Kentucky Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.
Tran was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Alcohol usage is not suspected at this time.
Carter County Sheriff's Department, Carter County EMS, Olive Hill Fire Department and Olive Hill Police Department also assisted with the investigation.
The investigation remains ongoing by Tpr. David Hobbs.
