Shooting Investigation in Greenup County

(Ashland, KY) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland is investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 532 pm today. Kenneth W. Sparks, age 29, of 176 Mayor Ridge in Greenup County was inside his residence preparing to leave for church when he was struck with a single gun shot in the back. Mr. Sparks was initially transported to Our Lady of Bellfonte Hospital and later transferred to Cabell Huntington Hospital where he remains in stable condition.
It appears the shot came from the Happy Ridge Area travelled into the rear wall of the residence and then struck Mr. Sparks. The shooter has not been identified and the investigation remains ongoing by Det. Ben Cramer.
Greenup County EMS responded and assisted with the investigation.
