News Release

Shelby County Pursuit and Subsequent Fatal Collision

Date of News Release: 08/02/2013

(Shelby County, KY) -- On August 2, 2013 at 0344 AM, Kentucky State Police, Frankfort receive a request to assist Shelby County Sheriff's Office in a pursuit which began at the 35 mile marker of Interstate 64 Westbound. Shelby County Sheriff's Office received a 911 Dispatch complaint of a reckless driver on I64 near the 43 mm. The pursuit began after officers attempted to stop the vehicle, a red, 2000 Chevrolet Blazer for reckless driving and excessive speed over 100 mph.

The vehicle left the interstate, turning south onto Taylorsville Road. The vehicle traveled approximately 10 miles, turning onto KY 148, Fisherville Road. Approximately 8 miles on KY 148, the vehicle failed to maneuver a curve, left the roadway and struck a tree line. The driver of the vehicle was ejected. The vehicle overturned and caught fire. Officers at the scene attempted to extinguish the fire before the fire departments arrived.

The driver of the vehicle, Marcus A Slone, age 29, of Brandenburg, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Shelby County Coroner's Office.

Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Shelby County Fire, Shelby County EMS, Eastwood Fire Department, Simpsonville Fire Department and Shelby County Coroner's Office.

The collision investigation is continuing by Kentucky State Police, Frankfort Post, Reconstruction Team.
