Kentucky State Police Investigating an Officer Involved Shooting in Scott County

Date of News Release: 04/27/2013

(Georgetown, KY) -- The Kentucky State Police Frankfort Post is conducting an Officer involved shooting investigation in Scott County. On Saturday, April 27, 2013 at approx., 8:28 am, the Lexington Fayette County Division of Police received a complaint of a possible domestic at the BP gas station at the I-75, Athens 104 exit. While in route to the complaint the Lexington Fayette County Division of Police received an update on the complaint that shots had been fired. A description of the suspect and vehicle was dispatched to local and area law enforcement advising that the suspect had left the BP gas station traveling northbound on I-75.

A Lexington Police officer observed the suspect vehicle traveling northbound on I-75 at the 117 mile marker in Fayette County. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle and the operator failed to comply and a pursuit began. At the Scott county line the Scott County Sheriff's Department and the Georgetown Police Department joined the pursuit.

At the 125 mile marker a Scott County Sherriff's Deputy deployed stop sticks (tire deflation device) to stop the eluding vehicle. The stop sticks flattened the eluding vehicle passenger side tires but the driver refused to stop. The eluding vehicle continued northbound of I-75 where another Scott County Deputy deployed a second set of stop sticks. The eluding vehicle drove around the second set of stop sticks and continued north on I-75.

Just prior to the 129.5 mile marker the eluding vehicle came to final rest, sideways, in a ditch line on the right side of I-75. The vehicle was surrounded by law enforcement. The driver exited his vehicle displaying a hand gun and threatening the officers. A Scott County Deputy fired multiple shots from his duty rifle striking the driver. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Scott County Coroner's Office. The driver and deceased suspect has been identified as Ronald Michael Davis, age 31, with a current address of Berea, KY. The female victim is in serious condition at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

The Kentucky State Police were assisted by the Lexington Division of Police, the Georgetown Police Department, Scott County Sheriff's Department, Scott County Coroner's Office, Scott County-Georgetown Fire and EMS, Georgetown Emergency Management and the Kentucky Department of Transportation. The Officer involved shooting is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Frankfort Post. Interstate I-75 was reopened at 2:00 pm.
