Knox County Deputy Involved in Shooting
Date of News Release: 09/03/2013
(Gray, Ky.) - On September 2, 2013 at 11:52 p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan received a call to assist a Knox County Sheriff's Deputy who had been shot at a residence in Orleans Circle in the Gray Community of Knox County. Preliminary investigation indicates that Deputy Brian Hensley, of the Knox County Sheriff's Department, was responding to a domestic violence complaint. Deputy Hensley identified himself at the front door and heard a gunshot shortly after. He then made entry into the residence just as the perpetrator, Jeffery Scott Frump age 44 of Gray, began firing shots at the Deputy striking him in the leg. Deputy Hensley then relocated for cover as Mr. Frump came out onto the front porch and pointed the weapon toward Deputy Hensley. Deputy Hensley then returned fire, fatally wounding Mr. Frump.
Deputy Hensley was transported by ambulance to the University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment of his injuries. At this time, his condition appears to be non-life threatening.
The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
Case is still under investigation by KSP Det. Jason York.
