News Release

Bell County Shooting

Date of News Release: 08/13/2013

(Pineville, Ky.) -- On August 13, 2013 at 9:42 a.m., Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan, received a call stating that three individuals had been shot by Raymond Curtis Smith of Flat Lick, Kentucky at a residence on Laurel Lakes Road just outside of Pineville. Troopers responded to the scene and located a father, son and daughter. Among the deceased were Michael Smith, 50 years old and Mychael Dustin Smith, 21 years old. Robin Smith, 21 years old, had also suffered a gunshot wound and was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Hospital. Preliminary investigation indicates that Raymond Curtis Smith, 51 years old from Evergreen Road in Flat Lick, Kentucky had left the residence and was later located on Hammons Fork Cemetery with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to the Knox County Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Michael Smith and Mychael Dustin Smith have been sent to State Medical Examiner's office in Frankfort for an autopsy. The case is still under investigation by KSP Detective Mark Mefford.
