News Release

Update: Harlan County Train Accident

Date of News Release: 07/02/2013

(Harlan, Ky.) -- On July 2, 2013 Sullivan County TN Medical Examiner contacted Post 10 Harlan and advised the operator of the Nissan Frontier, Rodney Bolin, 44 of Evarts had passed away at approximately 9:00 p.m. on July 1, 2013. The condition of the 9 year old is still unknown.

Harlan County Train Accident

Date of News Release: 07/01/2013

(Cawood, Ky.) -- At approximately 1032 hours, Post 10 Harlan received a call from CSX Railroad advising that one of their trains had struck a pick-up truck at a train crossing in the Cawood Community of Harlan County. Tpr Kenny Sergent responded and conducted an investigation. A 2011 Nissan Frontier operated by Rodney Bolin, 44, of Evarts, Ky was attempting to cross the tracks when he was struck in the driver-side door by a train. Mr. Bolin had his 9 year-old son in the truck with him at the time. Mr. Bolin was airlifted to Holsten Valley Medical Center and his son was airlifted to Johnson City Hospital. This accident is still under investigation by Tpr Kenny Sergent. Assisting at the scene was Harlan County Rescue Squad, Martins Fork Fire Department, and Johnson's Lifecare Ambulance.
