News Release

Officer Involved Shooting Investigation

Date of News Release: 04/06/2013

(Lynch, Ky.) -- On Friday April 5, 2013 at approximately 9:45 p.m. Lynch Police Department in Harlan County responded to a domestic disturbance located on West Main Street. Upon arrival a male subject was identified sitting inside of a vehicle outside of the residence. The officer with the Lynch Police Department approached the vehicle and observed that the male subject was aiming a shot gun at him. The officer then discharged his service weapon at the perpetrator, striking him multiple times. The suspect was then taken into custody after KSP Post 10 troopers and Harlan County deputies arrived on the scene. He was transported from the scene by EMS and was later flown to Holston Valley for further treatment. His status at this time is unknown. Sgt. Jackie Pickrell, with the Kentucky State Police, is currently conducting the investigation into the incident. Criminal charges are pending. No one else involved received any injuries. The suspect's information will not be released until charges are filed.
