News Release

Update on the Pike County Deputy Killed in a Collision on US 460

Date of News Release: 01/24/2012

(Belcher,Pike Co.) --- Preliminary investigation indicates that 47 year old David Childers of Ashcamp, Ky. was traveling West on US 460 in a Nissan Pathfinder. Childers lost control of his vehicle and crossed the centerline into the Eastbound lane. Childers vehicle then struck a 2001 Pike County Sheriffs Department cruiser operated by 53 year old Deputy James Thacker of Elkhorn City. James Thacker was pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Zeb Hampton. A third vehicle involved in the accident was a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix which was traveling East on US 460 operated by 38 year old Brenda Robinette of Pikeville. This incident remains under investigation By KSP Master Trooper Eddie Crum. Trooper Crum was assisted on scene by KSP Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Marrowbone Fire Department, Millard Fire Department, Pike County Sheriffs Department, Elkhorn City Ambulance, and Pike County Coroners Office.

Pike County Deputy Killed in a Collision on US 460

Date of News Release: 01/24/2012

(Belcher,Pike Co.) --- On Monday, January 23, 2012 at 9:04 pm Post 9 Pikeville received a 911 call of a three vehicle accident on US 460 in the Belcher community of Pike County. KSP units and Pike County Deputies responded to the scene. Once on scene KSP units determined that a Pike County Deputy had been fatally injured in the collision. The names of the parties involved are not being relased at this time. Information pertaining to this incident will be released as it becomes available. This incident remains under investigation by Master Trooper Eddie Crum.
