Single Vehicle Fatality Occurs In Knott County

(Hazard, Ky.) -- On January 25, 2012 at approximately 12:05 p.m. Kentucky State Police in Hazard received a call of a single vehicle collision on Hwy. 550 in the Lackey community of Knott County.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle operated by Jerry M. Moore, age 51 of Lackey, was traveling East on Hwy. 550 when he lost control of his vehicle. Mr. Moore crossed over the center line, ran over an embankment and struck a tree before coming to rest partially submerged in the creek.

Rescue workers freed Moore after approximately two and one half hours. He was transported to the St. Joseph Hospital in Martin where he was pronounced deceased at 3:50 p.m.

The investigation is continuing by Tpr. Jody Sims.
