Officer Involved Shooting in Hazard

(Hazard, Ky.) -- On Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at approximately 8:47 pm, Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard was contacted by Hazard Police Department requesting assistance with an incident involving an officer discharging his firearm. Kentucky State Police officers and detectives responded to the scene, and discovered that Hazard Police Department Patrolman Adam Baker was investigating a stolen credit card complaint at America's Best Value Inn, in Hazard.

While obtaining information from employees at the motel, the alleged perpetrator in this investigation, Scott Martin Kadik, 39 of Viper, entered the lobby then exited upon seeing Patrolman Baker. Patrolman Baker went outside and spoke with Kadik. Patrolman Baker advised he requested identification from Mr. Kadik, at which time Kadik got into his vehicle and started backing up toward Patrolman Baker. Patrolman Baker attempted to get out of the way, and advised that he fired one shot at the vehicle, striking it in the left rear tire. The car fled onto Morton Boulevard, before stalling a short distance away.

Patrolman Baker pursued the car, and advised that Mr. Kadik fled the car on foot. Patrolman Baker caught Mr. Kadik, at which time an altercation ensued, with Patrolman Baker receiving minor injuries during the struggle. Scott Kadik was then apprehended and taken into custody. A female passenger in the fleeing car, Amy Moore, 35 of Viper, was questioned and released with no charges.

Scott Kadik was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail, charged with of wanton endangerment 1st degree, and one count of wanton endangerment 1st degree against a police officer. Detective Randy Combs with Kentucky State Police is continuing the investigation of this incident.
