(Hazard, Ky.) -- On Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at approximately 8:47 pm, Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard was contacted by Hazard Police Department requesting assistance with an incident involving an officer discharging his firearm. Kentucky State Police officers and detectives responded to the scene, and discovered that Hazard Police Department Patrolman Adam Baker was investigating a stolen credit card complaint at America's Best Value Inn, in Hazard.

While obtaining information from employees at the motel, the alleged perpetrator in this investigation, Scott Martin Kadik, 39 of Viper, entered the lobby then exited upon seeing Patrolman Baker.
