News Release

Shooting Suspect Arrested in Hippo, Ky

Date of News Release: 08/11/2010

(Hippo, Ky.) -- On Wednesday August 11, 2010 while KSP Post 9 units were continuing the investigation on the shooting that occurred in Floyd County on Saturday August 7, 2010 where Jessica Nelson and Lee Samons were shot, KSP Post 9 units were conducting a search in the Hippo community and located the suspect Michael Nolan Slone. While conducting the search in the Hippo community suspect Michael Nolan Slone was located walking between two vacant residences near Ky 850. Contact was made with suspect Michael Nolan Slone by KSP Post 9 units and he was arrested without incident. Michael Nolan Slone was treated at the scene for potential dehydration and was transported and lodged in the Floyd County Detention. After the arrest a variety of weapons were located near the scene of the arrest. The arrest was made by Captain Jeff Mayberry and assisted by Sgt. Randy McCarty, Trooper First Class Bo Cure K-9 unit and Tpr. Cassandra Mullins.

This incident is still under investigation by KSP Post 9 Detectives.
