News Release

Floyd County Shooting Investigation

Date of News Release: 07/17/2010

(Harold,Ky)--On Friday July 16, 2010 Post 9 Pikeville received a call of a shooting on Old County Road in Harold,Ky. Troopers arrived on scene and were advised that the male subject involved in the shooting (50 year old Jimmy Thacker Jr.) had left the scene. Troopers were given a description of the suspects vehicle and alerted other units to observe for the vehicle in the surrounding area. Troopers responding where able locate the suspects unattended vehicle on the Right Fork of Island Creek in Pike County.

Units on scene with the vehicle were assisted by KSP K-9 and National Guard helicopter. Once the helicopter arrived Jimmy Thacker Jr. called Post 9 and wanted to turn himself in. Jimmy Thacker Jr. exited the woods and was arrested and transported to the Floyd County Detention Center. The victim (27 year old Elizabeth Conn)sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to the Pikeville Medical Center and then flown to UK hospital in Lexington. This is still under investigation by Detective Gary Sykes.
