News Release

School Bus Struck by Gravel Truck on U.S. 460 near Millard Middle School

Date of News Release: 03/22/2010

(Millard, Ky.) -- The driver of a Pike County School Bus and a student were seriously injured after being struck by a gravel truck on U.S. 460 this afternoon approximately 3:30 p.m. The bus was carrying approximately forty-five students at the time of the collision and several of those students were transported to Pikeville Medical Center by Pike County Ambulance services along with the driver of the bus. Some students were taken to hospital by their parents. The school bus was traveling eastbound on U.S. 460 and the gravel truck a 1985 Freightliner driven by Kendall Slusher of Salyersville, KY. was driving westbound when he lost control of the truck and slid into the eastbound land striking the school bus in the left forward side. The bus driver and one student were trapped in the bus for a short period of time before being removed by EMS and Rescue Personnel. Kentucky State Police TFC. Eddie Crum is investigating the collision. Several Ambulances, Rescue Squad Personnel, Commercial Vehicle Officer's, School Personnel and civilians assisted on the scene. The collision is still under investigation.
