A Fatal Accident on KY Highway 16

Date of News Release: 07/17/2010

(Verona, Ky.) -- On July 16th, Troopers from KSP Post 5 responded at 5:52 p.m. to a 9-1-1 call from a driver who reported striking a young girl in the roadway off KY Highway 16, located in Gallatin County. The driver, a 17 year-old female, apparently did not see the girl because of a hill and curve in the roadway at the location of impact. The victim was reportedly going to the mailbox. A 10 year-old female was located lying near the roadway. The victim was immediately evacuated by air to University of Cincinnati Children's Hospital by PHI, Inc.

At 8:20 p.m. the victim succumbed to injuries sustained from the collision and was pronounced dead. The victim's family has been notified.

Trooper Dustin Corbin, a collision reconstructionist, is leading the investigation. It appears that alcohol was not a factor and that no criminal charges will follow. Trooper Corbin was assisted by: Gallatin Co. Sheriff's Office, Gallatin Co. EMS, Glencoe Fire Department, and the Verona Fire Department.
