One Killed in a Single Vehicle DUI Collision

Date of News Release: 03/29/2010

(Campbellsburg, Ky.) -- Troopers from KSP Post 5 responded to a fatal collision at 10:48 p.m. on March 28, 2010 in Henry County. Through investigation, it was determined that a 2002 Ford Explorer operated by Esteban Valasquez, of Carrollton, was traveling South on I-71 near the 34 mile-marker when the operator lost control and impacted a pillar supporting an overpass. Resulting from impact, it appears that the unrestrained passenger was fatally ejected from the vehicle. Preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol was a contributing factor of the collision.

The operator has been charged with following:

1. Leaving the Scene of an Accident/Failure to Render Aide
2. Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence – Aggravated Circumstances, 2nd Degree
3. Driving on a DUI Suspended License
4. Manslaughter, 2nd Degree

The victim has been identified; however, the name is not currently being released due to being unable to locate family members for notification.
