Update to the Carroll County Sheriff Injured in a Collision
Date of News Release: 01/13/2010
(Campbellsburg, Ky.) -- At 0915 hours on January 13, 2010 Carroll County Sheriff Ben Smith was listed as being in 'Stable' condition by University of Louisville hospital staff. According to Trooper Corbin's preliminary collision investigation, Sheriff Smith was traveling South on Highway 2350 (Martin Road) while responding to a domestic violence call. Sheriff Smith's emergency lighting and siren were activated. While responding, Sheriff Smith apparently lost control and traveled across the roadway impacting with nearby trees.
The collision remains under investigation by accident reconstructionist Trooper Dusty Corbin.

Date of News Release: 01/12/2010
(Campbellsburg, Ky.) -- On January 12, 2010 at 1533 hours Troopers from KSP Post 5 responded to an injury accident involving a vehicle from the Carroll County Sheriff's Department. Carroll County Sheriff Ben Smith was responding to a call for service when his vehicle lost control on Martin Road which resulted in collision. Sheriff Smith was transported by Carroll County EMS to Carroll County Memorial Hospital. The Sheriff was then flown by helicopter to University of Louisville Hospital for further treatment. The extent of the Sheriff's injuries is unknown at this time.
The collision is still under investigation at this time. Investigating the collision is accident reconstructionist Senior Trooper Dusty Corbin. Assisting at the scene were the following agencies: Carroll County Rescue, Carrollton Police Department, Carroll County Sheriff's Office, and the Ghent Fire Department. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
