(Bowling Green, KY) -- On Friday, March 26, 2010, at approximately 5:15 a.m., a tractor trailer travelling south on I-65 and a passenger van travelling north collided on I-65, near the 63 mile marker. The tractor trailer went through the cable barrier, striking a van. After striking the van the tractor trailer left the roadway, struck a rock wall and caught fire.
Ten of the twelve passengers in the van and the operator of the tractor trailer died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. A four year old and a five year old passenger survived and were treated and released at Caverna Hospital.
It is unknown at this time why the tractor trailer left the southbound lane and struck the van. The collision is still under investigation.
