Three Injured a Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-65
Date of News Release: 01/05/2010
(Bowling Green, Ky.) -- On January 5th, James Alexander was southbound on Interstate 65 when the right front steer tire blew. As Mr. Alexander slowed his vehicle in an effort to try to pull over to the emergency lane his vehicle was struck in the rear by Mustafa Merdanovic's vehicle, who was also southbound. The impact caused the vehicle operated by Mr. Alexander to lose a load of steel coils which blocked the travel portion of the road.
Ronald King had stopped his vehicle to avoid the steel coils on the roadway when the vehicle driven by Sriahilan Srignanakathirgamana struck Mr. Alexander's vehicle in the rear. The impact of the collision caused Mr. Srignanakathirgamana's tractor trailer to jack-knife. At this point the jack-knifing vehicle struck Michael T. Ford's vehicle which was parked on the shoulder because the interstate was impassable.
Mr. Merdanovic and Mr. Srignanakathirgamana were transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital via EMS where they were both admitted for treatment of injuries. Mr. Alexander was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Mr. Ford & Mr. King were not injured. Hazardous material was not a factor in either accident.
