Stats From Post 2 For June 2010

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of June 2010, Post 2 reports the following activity:

*There were four (4) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of five (5) lives reported in the Post 2 District in June 2010. There were three (3) fatal crashes reported in Muhlenberg County including a double-fatality. There was one (1) single fatality reported in Hopkins County. Three (3) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet, and the seat belt status of one (1) victim is unknown.

Through June 30, 2010, twenty (20) people have been killed in nineteen (19) crashes in the Post 2 District. Seven (7) victims were not wearing seat belts, nine (9) victims were wearing seat belts, two (2) victims were not wearing helmets, one (1) was not applicable, and the seat belt status of one (1) victim is unknown. Eight (8) of the fatal crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through June 30, 2009, seventeen (17) people had been killed in fifteen (15) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
