Fatal Occurs in Letcher County

(Whitesburg, Ky.) -- On February 2, 2010 at approximately 12:30 pm Kentucky State Police in Hazard received a 911 call of an accident on Ky-15 in the Isom Community of Letcher County.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a moped operated by Marlin J. Sandlin II, age 16 of Isom Ky. pulled onto Ky-15 from a parking lot and into the path of a garbage truck operated by Boyd Spencer. Sandlin was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Letcher County Coroners Office. Spencer received no injuries. The investigation is continuing by Tpr. Randy Surber.
