Franklin County Mans Arrest Leads to the Evacuation of a Frankfort Neighborhood
Date of News Release: 06/22/2010
(Post 12 Frankfort) -- On Monday, June 21, 2010 at 10:30 PM, Franklin County Sherriff's Deputies were serving a bench warrant at a residence on Northwood Drive in the city limits of Frankfort. They arrested Joshua D. Logan, age 31, of Frankfort on an outstanding Franklin County Bench warrant for Failure to Appear. Deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the residence. Logan was arrested and lodged in the Franklin County Detention Center.
Franklin County Deputies obtained consent to search from Logan's mother and entered the residence and located a large marijuana indoor grow. The deputies also located volatile substances and suspected explosive materials inside the residence. Deputies backed out of the residence and called Kentucky State Police. Kentucky State Police Special Investigations arrived with their Marijuana Suppression Unit and there Hazardous Devices Unit. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called to the scene along with the FBI and the Frankfort Police Department. Lexington Division of Police Bomb squad, 41st Civil Support Team and Frankfort/Franklin Co. Emergency Management were all called to the scene.
On Tuesday, morning at 6:00 AM, Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement expanded the crime scene and started evacuating twenty residences on both side of the crime scene to ensure the public's safety. Emergency Management set up an information line at 502-352-2119 so residents affected could call and get information about when it was safe to return home.
Throughout the day multiple agencies have worked together to remove the volatile substances and explosive materials from the residence. Once volatile substances were removed the Hazardous Device Units removed and destroyed all explosive materials by controlled detonation. Investigating agencies remain on the scene to collect evidence and to remove approximately one-hundred marijuana plants. As of 9:30 PM, residents affected are now allowed to return home. Some officers continue evidence collection not related to public safety. The Frankfort Fire Department and EMS is also working with the many agencies involved in the investigation.
Mr. Logan has been charged with five counts of wanton endangerment and one count of cultivating marijuana, with more criminal charges pending. The investigation is ongoing.
