News Release

Infant Death Investigation in Spencer County

Date of News Release: 05/15/2010

(Post 12 Frankfort) -- At 0342 hrs. Spencer County Dispatch received a 911 call from Swan Way in Taylorsville. The caller stated that there was a three month old child that was unresponsive and apparently not breathing. The infant was transported to Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville and was pronounced deceased at 0441 hrs. Taylorsville Police responded to the initial call and requested assistance from the State Police Post in Frankfort (Post 12). Detectives from Post 12 responded and began an investigation. The investigation revealed that the mother, (who was the caregiver of the child at the time of his death) was under the influence of illegal substances. The child had been placed on a living room chair to sleep on the night of 05-14-2010 and died in the overnight hours. The mother, Amy Covyeow-Dorner was charged with one count of Reckless Homicide, three counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st as a result of three other siblings in the residence at the time of the incident, and one count of Prescription Drugs Not in Proper Container. A postmortem examination is to be conducted on 05-16-2010 in Louisville. The investigation is on going by Detective Mitch Harris.
